Schools and Education

Not only is the Board of Education located in Albany, but so are many of New York State’s great schools!

Located within Albany are two exceptional public-school districts; Guilderland School District and South Colonie School District.

Albany also offers great private Catholic schooling, such as Academy of Holy Names for girls, and Blessed Sacrament School for both boys and girls.

In addition to exceptional grade schools, Albany is known for some of the best colleges and universities in the state. UAlbany, Albany College of Pharmacy and Heath Sciences, and Saint Rose are all within minutes of our communities.

Mind/Body Fitness

Relax your mind and body after a day at work or get energized on a Saturday morning by taking a yoga class! Heart Space Yoga & Healing Arts offers yoga classes and private yoga sessions in addition to workshops and other team building activities. After your private class, you can enjoy a massage before continuing with the rest of your day!

Good Karma Studio provides traditional yoga classes as well as aerial yoga, barre fitness, and bungee workouts! If hot yoga is something that interests you, The Hot Yoga Spot is only nine minutes from Oxford Heights, and ten minutes from Grecian Terrace. You can attend these classes in the morning, or in the afternoon, whichever works best for your schedule.

Worried about finding a new salon after moving? Don’t worry, we have some recommendations for highly rated hair salons in the Albany area.

Bombshell Hair offers typical hair services such as coloring, cutting, and styling. Along with hair, they also do facials, waxes, and makeup applications. Madelaine’s Hair Salon is another great option when you are looking for a new hair service.

Albany has an array of restaurants that even the pickiest eater will find a place to enjoy. Whether you enjoy Italian, burgers, Thai food or sushi, there is an option for you less than 10 minutes away! For a quick bite, head to Dairy Queen, Panera, or Ted’s Fish Fry.

Enjoy a nice dinner out at The Standard, Athos, Grappa 72, Mezza Notte, or Barcelona Restaurant.

If you are looking for authentic Latin and Mexican cuisine, Salsa Latina is the place to head to. Craving Italian instead? V&R Fine Italian Cuisine it is then!

Not into Italian? If you just want to go for some burgers, wings, and fries, Pepper Jack’s and Chicken Joe’s Chicken are two great options.

Things to Do

Since Albany is the state’s capital, you can visit the Empire State Plaza and the Capitol Building! The Capitol Building offers walk in tours of the building from 10 A.M, 12 P.M, 2 P.M, and 3 P.M during the work week (Monday-Friday).

Right near the Capitol is the New York State Museum, which is a history museum with a beautiful carousel on the top floor for children to enjoy. If art is more your style, Albany has the amazing Albany Institute of History and Art right around the corner, which is about a 4 minute drive, or a 15 minute walk away.

If you are looking to find new musicians to fall in love with it, attend some concerts at the Times Union Center! Although they have been renamed many times throughout the years, the Times Union Center continues to provide entertainment to the residents of Albany and surrounding cities. They also offer shows other than concerts, such as college sporting events, auto and monster truck shows, and even Disney On Ice!

Other than Disney On Ice, Albany has other fun activities for children.; go-carting, mini golf, and other outdoor activities are offered at Funplex Fun Park. If the kids would like some indoor activities, Airdrenaline Indoor Trampoline Park is an alternative option.

Commute Times

Albany is centrally located, making commutes to nearby Troy, Clifton Park and Saratoga Springs short and easy! Commute times by car for major surrounding cities include: 29 minutes to Schenectady, 16 minutes to Troy, 30 minutes to Clifton Park, and 45 minutes to Saratoga Springs.
