Spend your Summer in Saratoga

March 12, 2020 in Capital Region Living

Each year we look forward to summer and everything that Saratoga Springs has to offer. The city is exciting no matter the season, but summer is when things truly come alive. People are out boating on Saratoga Lake, concerts at SPAC are in full swing, and the Saratoga Racetrack opens for another season of thrilling horse races.

Whether you’re a resident or visiting for the season, there is never a shortage of entertainment and events in Saratoga.

What to do in Saratoga Springs

The Saratoga Racetrack

Ever since it opened in 1863, the Saratoga Racetrack has been the epitome of summer in Saratoga. Many people find summer rentals in Saratoga and spend June through August in the city so they can make the most of racetrack season. Locals and visitors alike enjoy dressing up, packing a cooler with lunch and snacks, and heading to the track for a day at the races. Place some bets and try to win big or sit back and simply enjoy the races from the grandstand. Once the final race for the day is over, head downtown to one of the many restaurants for a delicious dinner.  The 2020 Saratoga Racetrack season begins on July 16th and will conclude on Labor Day.

Visit a Brewery

The track is dark on Mondays and Tuesdays, meaning there are no races and the track is closed. On these days we recommend visiting one of the many breweries in Saratoga. Craft beer has quickly been taking over the Capital Region and there are a lot of breweries that are producing exceptional brews. Start with Artisanal Brew Works, Druthers, or Unified Beerworks, and then make your way through some of the others on our guide to Capital Region breweries.

Attend a Concert at SPAC

Saratoga Performing Arts Center opened in 1966 and has been a staple in the community ever since. The New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra have been performing at SPAC since the venue opened and are always highly anticipated events. Big acts such as the Grateful Dead, Kings of Leon, Alice and Chains, Mumford and Sons, and The Dave Matthews Band have all performed at SPAC, drawing huge crowds. Check out the event calendar and purchase your tickets for a show today.

Go Downtown

Broadway is the main commercial street running through downtown Saratoga and it features some of the best restaurants, boutiques, and nightlife in the area. In fact, Broadway has been voted one of the 10 best main streets in America.

Visit Caroline & Main, Lucia, and Spoken Boutique for the latest styles and trends for women. Union Hall Supply Co. is a modern menswear shop with clothing from the quality and well-known brands. In addition to clothing, there are numerous shops to stop in for food and gifts including Saratoga Tea & Honey, the Savory Pantry, and Saratoga Olive Oil. Take some time to walk up and down Broadway and see what piques your interest!

Spend the Day at the Lake

Saratoga Lake is just a few miles south of the city and is enjoyed by many. Brown’s Beach provides public access and is the perfect spot for families to spend the day. There are also several places to rent boats, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards to spend time on the water. When you need a break, grab lunch or dinner at one of the lakeside restaurants.

Relax by the Pool

Located inside Saratoga Spa State Park are two pools, Victoria Pool and Peerless Pool. The Victoria Pool is known as the first heated pool in the U.S. and has been known to be visited by some famous guests. The Peerless Pool features 3 different pool areas including the Main Pool, Kiddie Pool, and Water Slides so guests of all ages can enjoy themselves.

Residents of The Springs receive all-inclusive access to both pools so they can relax and get some sun. For all others, admission to Victoria Pool is $8 per adult and $4 per child. Admission to Peerless Pool is free!
