5 Tips for a Tidy Apartment

October 1, 2022 in General

No matter the size of your apartment, clutter can take over quickly. Organizing your home can seem like a daunting task, and keeping it organized even more so! The key to staying organized is to have a home for everything. If you’re looking to tidy up your apartment, follow our top 5 tips below for creating an organized space and keeping it that way.

  1. Make Use of Underutilized Space

Use every available space in your apartment to keep clutter organized and out of sight! Our two favorite space saving hacks are:

Over the Door Hooks

Utilize the space on the backs for your doors to create additional storage! Put some on your front door so you can hang your coats and bags. In the bathroom, hang your towels or an additional toiletry organizing for more counter and cabinet space.

Under the Bed Drawers and Bins

Need a space for your sweaters during the summer? Grab a few bins for underneath your bed! If you want a real organized look, try out the sliding drawer bins for easy access and a put-together look. Don’t have space under your bed? Buy risers! You can get different heights and lift your bed up to the height that works for you!

  1. Purchase Functional Furniture

Furniture that gives you additional storage and makes your room come together? Yes, please! When purchasing furniture for your apartment, always look for pieces that are multi-use. Two pieces of functional furniture we love are:

Couch or Ottoman with Storage Inside

Finding a couch with storage inside is a huge win! It’s perfect for storing blankets, pillows, or even clothes! If you can’t find a couch you love with storage, an ottoman is a great way to bring your room together and provide you with hidden storage opportunities! Put it at the end of your bed or in your living room for an extra seat or leg rest.

Cube Organizers

Cube organizers are a great way to add in more storage to your apartment! Versatile in use, they can be used as a TV stand, bookshelf, side tables, bed side tables, room dividers, and more! They come in many different shapes and sizes and offer a plethora of bin patterns. You can also get doors for each cubby to give it a more polished look.

  1. Stackable Storage

Often when organizing we opt for big containers that appear to organize our items when in reality smaller containers that can be stacked are a better choice. A shelf with empty space above a bin is wasted space! For places like your bathroom, pantry, or linen closet, stackable storage is a great way to create space in small places.

  1. Don’t Hold on to Old Items

Staying organized also means parting with items you no longer have use for. It can be tempting to hold on to everything but having the ability to say goodbye to things you don’t need will decrease the amount of clutter in your home and allow you to stay tidy. If it’s not a sentimental item, and you don’t use it, it’s time to lose it!

  1. Don’t Put it Off

We’ve found that a total deep clean can be overwhelming and is something that’s often procrastinated. Our top tip for keeping your apartment tidy is to do mini clean-ups! Set a 5-minute timer or play two of your favorite songs and do a speed clean each day! You’ll be surprised at how much you can get done in just 5 minutes when you put your mind to it. Try making it a habit to return everything to its home after you’re done using it. Eventually, it will become second nature to continuously tidy up!
